
Ginny Chiles
Ginny Chiles is passionate about her subject, beautiful chocolate confections. An award-winning candy maker based in Sacramento, California, Ginny now shares her talents via her company, Designer Chocolates, which offers instructional videos on candy making. “I’ve always enjoyed teaching,” she smiles.
Although she’s been making candy and other delectable edibles most of her life, it wasn’t until a couple of years ago, following her retirement, that she almost by accident found her new career. During a Mother’s Day visit to her son in Cleveland, Ohio, she began researching on the Internet what some other candy makers offered, and realized, “I can do better than that.” And so her son suggested that they go into business, marketing her teaching and culinary skills on the Internet.
Ginny brings impressive credentials to Designer Chocolates. With training at the Wilton School in Chicago, the California School of Culinary Arts and more, she’s collected numerous awards. In California State Fair competitions, for example, her chocolate truffles have taken first place in each of the last five years of competitions.
“I’ve been blessed with this talent and I want to share it,” she says. For example, in her former role as Confectionary Chairwoman for the Teen Challenge Auxiliary, Northern California District, an interdenominational Christian ministry, she’s been teaching the making of chocolate creations to fellow committee members; highly successful fundraisers selling candy made by members of the organization soon followed.
A tireless worker and of the mindset that giving is better than receiving, Ginny doesn’t think of her creations as work. Couple her attitudes and enthusiasm with learning how to make some of the best confections ever and the winning combination is deliciously irresistible.
